Arising from a curiosity as to how much I was spending on a fitness lifestyle, I did some napkin math.

I’ve been average 5 workouts a week for the past few months, a mix of strength and cardio. That amounts to 20 workouts a week, which I will use as my baseline.

Strength i.e. The Gym

Type Monthly Cost Cost per Workout
Private Gyms $98 $4.90
Safra Gym $46.70 $2.34
ActiveSG Gym $26.67 $1.33
University Alumni Gym $12.10 $0.60

I’m currently on my university’s gym alumni subscription which is insanely affordable.

Cardio

I’ve also been using my gym subscription which gives me access to an air-conditioned environment (which has been a lifesaver recently), and greater variety of cardio options—treadmill and spin bike.

An everyday trainer averages $70 to $120. I copped an Adidas Ultraboost Lite for $70 during a sale, which has been performing great for Z2 runs. I did 14 runs in the last month. Assuming a $90 pair can last me a year, that amounts to $0.54 per run.

Supplements

I’m currently just taking protein and creatine. A 2.5kg (100 servings) order of protein costs around $90. Given that I take 2 servings per workout, that amounts to $1.80 per workout. 500g (100 servings) of creatine costs me $0.50 per workout. Supplements often go on sale, so the costs are actually significantly lower irl.

The total cost of fitness

Thus, based on the above calculations, my total cost of fitness for a month currently amounts to

Type Cost
Gym $12
Cardio $7.56
Supplements $46
Total $65.56

which I think is very affordable and has a very high ROI.
